Shire Customs

  1. Each and every member matters. No one should ever be made to feel left out or unimportant.
  2. Important information should always be brought up at meetings to share with the Shire as a whole
  3. ALL official decisions pertaining to the Shire will be made at a meeting by a vote, whether 3 people are present or 20.
    • If there is a decision that should be made in a pressing amount of time, contact the Seneschal. In cases of last-minute proposals, facebook and phone calls can be utilized.
    • Any and all classes, demos, and events need to be discussed and voted upon during a meeting.
  1. If there are any issues between members, it should be brought to the Seneschal first. The Seneschal will then choose a route in addressing the problem.
  2. During a meeting, “parking lot conversation” should be avoided as much as possible in order to keep the meeting flowing without distraction.
  3. During a meeting, everyone will have a chance to speak and voice their opinions, ideas and inputs. All members should be respectful of one another and avoid interrupting, talking over another member, or holding conversation while another is speaking.
  4. All conversation should be kept at a pg-13 level. The SCA is for everyone and of all ages. In order to be welcoming of minors and those of more sensitivities, there should be no inappropriate conversation. More sensitive topics within lessons should have a disclaimer.
  5. It is always acceptable to disagree upon a matter. This is what helps ideas move, evolve and grow. But, rude behavior will not be tolerated. If there is a serious problem, it should be addressed to the Seneschal.
  6. Our officers should always get full attention. Being an officer is a lot of time, work, and commitment. Officers shall be respected at any and all meetings.
  7. Harassment of any type will not be tolerated. If a member feels uncomfortable, they should approach the Seneschal as soon as possible.
  8. Any change of Offices shall be made during a meeting, and shall be voted upon by the Shire.
  9. Activities such as combat, thrown weapons, or archery shall not be practiced within the Shire without a marshal present. What one does outside of the Shire is their own business, but there will be no “SCA Official” practices without a marshal present at all times. Marshals should also be respected at any practice.
    • Minors MUST HAVE A PARENT OR GUARDIAN PRESENT for any and all practices!
